Doris and her husband (Mom &Dad), first arrived in Key West in the early 1970's. At that time, they owned a little sweets shop on Duval street in Key Lime Square. Every evening they would close up the shop and take a stroll to the docks of Key West to watch the sunset, and feed the fish that gathered there. One evening during a particulary beautiful sunset, just as the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky and the waters shimmered and glowed the most beautiful shade of green they had ever seen, (this is known as the green flash). At just that instant, a mermaid appeared before them! place your mouse over this picture to see this happen She was not your average mermaid, a little older,but very pretty, with the sweetest grandmothers face ,twinkling eyes, and short blue grey hair! She wore glasses and had an apron on, and in her hands she carried a pie! The mermaid spoke to them, thanking them for taking care of her fish, then handed the pie to Doris, and disappeared with the flash. The sky shimmered a creamy gold and yellow, then soon darkened leaving Doris and her husband standing on the dock, with a pie... They carried that pie home and ate it, it was a Key Lime Pie. |
